Un uomo chiede al Re una barca per trovare un'isola sconosciuta.
Il Re dopo lunghe trattative gliela concede.
Ma marinai che lo accompagnino non ce ne sono, perché nessuno crede che esistano ancora isole non segnate sulle carte geografiche, e poi a tutti bastano quelle.
Una donna stufa di lavare palazzi e sgobbare per il Re decide di seguirlo, e così si incontrano al porto.
La barca li aspetta, ma il loro sarà un viaggio diverso da quello previsto, perché senza equipaggio una barca non va lontano.
Lontano però andranno lo stesso, perché ciò che si vede alla luce del giorno non è uguale a ciò che si vede di notte, e i due protagonisti scoprono la rotta di un viaggio davvero unico: verso un’isola sconosciuta che non è segnata su alcuna mappa, perché non è mai ferma né uguale a se stessa.
